For years, the name Lürssen has been synonymous with some of the most luxurious, and certainly the largest yachts available for charter.  Mammoth-sized vessels such as the 70 meter motor yacht MARTHA ANN and the 60 meter motor yacht SOLEMATES are testaments to the 130 yr old German shipbuilder's dedication to craftsmanship and timeless elegance.

The latest launch by the acclaimed builder is no exception.  Lurssen motor yacht ACE has the distinction of being the first superyacht to splash down in 2012.  She measures 87 meters, and left the company's shipyard in Rendsburg on January 9th. Motor yacht ACE is designed by Andrew Winch Design.  Her exterior is both unique and instantly recognizable.

Would You Charter a Yacht in the Devil's Triangle?

Wednesday, July 27, 2011 by Good Times SailAway

Are you superstitious? Would you charter a private luxury yacht in the Devil's Triangle?

It's funny how superstitions and "tales of the unknown" tend to quietly creep into our lives and psyches.

You are going along just fine, oblivious to things that others consider eerie or supernatural.  Suddenly, somebody (or something) plants a seed in your mind, and whammo - you are throwing salt over your shoulder for good luck, or giving a wide berth to the neighbors' black cat sitting in your driveway!

Case in Point - planning a Bahama yacht charter vacation, or as I now refer to it: chartering a yacht in the Devil's Triangle.  Queue the creepy music and fog...

I was recently assisting a client in organizing a Lurssen yacht charter on motoryacht SOLEMATES. The gentleman wanted to take his family for a week-long adventure in the Bahamas.  We were chatting on the phone when I heard his teenage son in the background say, "Dude, I'm not down with a week in the Devil's Triangle...boats go there and people get abducted by aliens and disappear forever!"

The boys' father said,  "Jason, you're watching too much cable TV.  A little less Ghost Hunters and a little more studying wouldn't hurt."

I remember chuckling to myself, but when I hung up the phone, I began to wonder... is there any credence to this kid's apprehension???

The Devil's Triangle is also known as the Bermuda Triangle, an area of the Atlantic Ocean bounded by Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and a point between Miami and Melbourne, Florida, in which numerous watercraft and aircraft are said to have mysteriously disappeared.

Bermuda Triangle - Bahamas - Miami/Melbourne, Florida - Puerto Rico map

The most famous disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle are the ship USS Cyclops lost in March, 1918 and a U.S. Navy aircraft squadron, Flight 19 [video], said to have vanished in a green fog in December, 1945.

Scores of books have been written about the mystery of the triangle, and dozens of websites offer conjecture on who or what is responsible.  Theories abound - from the occult to extraterrestrials.

Some sites offer a detailed list of planes, ships, and yachts that have vanished
.  It does make you wonder - how could so many boats and planes simply disappear?

Of course, many other books and websites detail how scientists and researchers have debunked the mysteries over the years.  It seems simple explanations, like tropical storms and pilot error, are the probable culprits for the disappearances.

With science on their side, the U.S. Navy
and the yachting industry pay little heed to the myths and legends. Lloyd's of London, for example, the world's leading market for specialized insurance, does not charge higher premiums for luxury mega yacht charter vessels transiting this heavily traveled area.

Still, I can't get the silly notion of aliens in the Bahamas out of my head.  Not Cuban rafters, but little green aliens with antennas on their heads and ray guns in their hands.

I'm with Jason, dude - I'm not "down" with the Devil's Triangle.

A Sunny Outlook is Guaranteed with New Yacht Solar Beds

Tuesday, December 28, 2010 by News SailAway
With much of the northeast United States buried under a blizzard of snow, here's a new superyacht amenity guaranteed to give you a "sunny" outlook!

LMV's Lasy Solar sun bed self-orientates according to the position of the sun.  How neat is that??

Lasy Solar sun beds orient themselves for charter guest comfort

Imagine you are onboard your Lurssen Yacht Charter somewhere off the coast of Capri.  Your solar-powered sun bed slowly rotates to keep the heat on your body.   What's that you say - it's starting to get a little too hot?  No worries - there's a built-in Mist Breeze cooling system to cool you down!

Of course, total comfort is a must, so the bed is covered in marine-grade luxury leather.

Thanks to its solar power source, the Lasy Solar sun bed doesn't need connecting to a yacht's power supply.

The manufacturer plans to have the product website for Lasy Solar sun beds up and running soon

Superyachts sold in September 2009

Friday, October 23, 2009 by News SailAway
Luxury yacht sales bode well for the economy

Megayacht charter customers take heart - the luxury yacht industry is alive and well as Superyacht sales soar in September 2009.

Without the active buying and selling of Mediterranean yacht charter vessels among the world's elite, there would be no viable luxury sailing charter or megayacht rental industry.

Recent sales bode well for the future.

September saw a number of 2009 brokerage sales records broken, with 24 superyachts reported sold at asking prices totalling nearly 374 million EUROS. This was well above the combined total of July and August of 340 million EUROS and, indeed, the first four months of the year when, between January and the end of April, yachts with total asking prices of 372 million EUROS were sold.

It was also the month when very large yachts came into their own, as Lurssen’s 59.4m OASIS, the 70.5m BOADICIA from Amels, Benetti’s 56m ALLEGRO, and the 64.5m MY SHANTI, again from Amels, all found new owners.

Boat International magazine wonders, "So we moved from the slough of despond to the broad, sunlit uplands of increasing volumes and values of sales?"

Charlie Birkett of YCO comments: “Understandably, expectations for what was once the start of the busiest season for yacht sales were conservative across the industry this year, and major brokerage houses reacted cautiously even to the apparent signs of recovery in August. However going into September we saw recovery consolidated somewhat with sales of the 60m+ yachts of prestigious yards and, speaking to other leading brokers at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, the mood was certainly more optimistic.

Planning a Trinity Yacht Charter Has Never Been Easier

Friday, June 5, 2009 by News SailAway
While European luxury yacht charter customers tend to request superyachts built in Italy, Holland, and France, their counterparts in America have a strong preference for a Trinity yacht charter vessel.

The Trinity yacht charter fleet stands toe-to-toe with the Benetti yacht charter, Lurssen yacht charter, and Feadship yacht charter fleets in terms of luxury amenities and interiors.

Trinity Yachts has earned its place as one of the world's elite builders of custom superyachts, with an emphasis on European quality, steel and aluminum constructions.  Their goal is to build a truly custom yacht that fulfills all of your unique cruising desires.

Trinity motoryacht MINE GAMES

In a world where most superyachts are constructed on a semi-production basis, this builder is renown for creating the largest yachts available for mega yacht charters, up to 400 feet (123 meters). They work with a number of the world's most renowned naval architects and interior designers.

Now planning a Caribbean yacht charter or Mediterranean yacht charter holiday on one of these magnificent yachts has never been easier. Currently, there are 17 rent private yacht Trinity-built models available.

The newest and largest yachts include 54 meter KATHARINE, 50 meter MINE GAMES, and 49 meter yachts LOHENGRIN, ANJILIS, and DESTINATION FOX HARB'R TOO.
